What the subscription covers
The monthly fee is not a rented drawer. It bundles everything that has to exist around a set of keys entrusted to a third party: locked storage, labelling that does not give away your address, a spare set and a written trace of every movement.
Anonymous labelling
An internal code replaces the address and your name on the tag. A mislaid key points to no property in Saint-Malo.
Spare set
A second set kept in a separate compartment, handed over against ID if keys are lost during the stay.
Time-stamped log
Every handover and every return is logged with a time and a name, so you know who held the keys and when.
Why hand over a set rather than fit a key safe
The walled city is a protected area: bolting a key safe to a listed façade is frowned upon, often banned by the building's rules, and invariably spotted by neighbours within a few weeks. Key holding settles the question without fixing anything to the stonework.
It also settles the shared-code problem. A key safe whose combination has circulated across three platforms for two seasons is not security any more, it is an open door. Here, every handover goes through a name and booking reference check, with no code doing the rounds.

A worked example
What you pay, month by month
The subscription runs for as long as the set stays with us; movements are only counted when a guest arrives or leaves. A property let weekly in high season and twice in November does not cost the same thing.

One movement = one handover or one collection. A stay therefore counts two: the check-in and the check-out.
From your drop-off to the guest's departure
How one booking runs

You drop the set off once
Bring the keys to the counter between 9am and 8pm, with the property address and your access instructions. We tag the set and open your monthly line.

You tell us about the arrival
A WhatsApp message is enough: guest name, date, rough time. Without a heads-up we still hand the keys over on a name and booking reference.
- 03
The guest collects the keys
At the counter, between 9am and 8pm. We check the name and the reference, then log the time out. They leave with the keys and, if they want, drop their bags with us until check-in time.
- 04
The guest returns the keys on departure
Same counter, same hours. The set goes back in the cabinet, your property is ready for the next arrival and you have not had to travel.
At the end of the month you get a single invoice: the holding subscription and the movements, arrival by arrival.
Questions about key holding
How much does key holding cost in Saint-Malo?
€19.99 excl. VAT per month per property to hold the set, then €5 incl. VAT each time we hand the keys to a guest and €5 incl. VAT each time we take them back. A property with six arrivals in the month comes to €19.99 excl. VAT of subscription and €60 incl. VAT of movements.
Do I have to subscribe to use the service?
Yes. The monthly fee covers secure storage of the set, coded labelling and the spare; the €5 incl. VAT check-in and check-out are only charged when there is an actual arrival or departure. A month with no bookings costs you the subscription alone, and the commitment ends when you take your set back.
Where are the keys kept between guests?
In a locked cabinet inside the premises at 46 Bd de la République, out of sight of the counter. Every set carries a coded tag that shows neither the address nor the owner's name, so a key found in the street leads nowhere.
What happens if a guest arrives after 8pm?
Tell us the day before and we set up a secure box handover for the late arrival, with the guest calling in at the counter the next day. Arrivals between 9am and 8pm are handled at the counter with no surcharge.
Can you hold keys for several properties?
Yes. The subscription applies per property and each set stays separately identified. Above five properties we issue a single monthly invoice with movements broken down per property.
Does the guest pay anything?
No. Holding and movements are invoiced to the owner or to their property manager. The guest arrives with a name and a booking reference, collects the keys and pays nothing.
What if a guest loses the keys?
We keep a spare set in a separate compartment. It is handed over straight away against ID, which avoids an emergency locksmith on a Sunday evening. Replacing the lost set is then re-invoiced at cost.
